… And Nobody Else

Performance

Ahmed Ayed

A choreographic creation that links the intimate and the universal, …And Nobody Else evokes the search for an identity in constant transformation, a quest for a free “self” within a narrow envelope. Ahmed Ayed, accompanied by choreographer and dancer Hamza Damra and drummer and singer Tim Clijsters, explores his questions about identity, questioning the freedom to be oneself beyond the masks we impose on ourselves. Do we ever fully realise our true identity, or do we live through a series of compromises that shape us in spite of ourselves? How can we be ourselves when all we do is play roles we don’t choose? Through movement, the constant metamorphosis of body and space and the raw pulse of drums, …And Nobody Else takes us on a journey of initiation into different versions of ourselves. A rock-flavoured performance that explores the boundary between our identities and the reality that surrounds us.

Ahmed Ayed is a theater director, video director and actor. He is originally from Sousse, Tunisia. His first relationship to the stage was the dance he practiced from a young age. He left his native country in 2007 to study acting at the Institut des Arts de Diffusion in Belgium. Guided by his desire to “create worlds”, he was able, through the creation of his first show ALICE, to develop acting techniques and a singular visual universe, and thus found the Collectif Illicium, with which he recently created the show RIGOR MORTIS at Atelier 210 in Brussels. He will co-direct, and be an adaptation of the novel Bel Abîme with Michel Bernard and the unites Nomades company, and is developing an adaptation of Don Quixote in Tunisia with actor Brahim Zarrouk. As an actor, he has been playing since 2012 in shows such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Compagnie Point Zéro, MUTIK, SELFISH, Even Pas Vrai, Le Passeur, Sweet Home, Aura Popularis, Hotel Europa… Returning to dance, he co-signed the creation of LILITH, a performance with French dancer and choreographer Marion Blondeau. Behind the camera, he directed several music videos such as Ain Essouda by Ammar 808 (2nd jury prize and public prize at #VKRS1) Dawri by Ghoula (nominated at the Arab Music Awards) Allah by Night by Mettani, (national competition of VKRS #1, selected at the Intergalactiques festival in Lyon), Footsteps by Emel Mathlouthi (selected at the Beirut Film Festival), or even Soutbouk and Dima Maak by Jawhar. He continues his experiences as a director with projects in preparation such as his first short fiction film Boubchir.
